Appointed as Heir Apparent of Malacca by his father with the title of Raja Muda. Banished for committing murder in a moment of passion, he went into exile. Proclaimed and installed as Sultan of Pahang, 1470. m. Mengindra Putri, grand daughter of Sultan Iskandar Shah Nenggiri ibni al-Marhum Sultan Baki Shah, Raja of Kelantan. He d. 17th September 1475 (bur. Langgar, Dusan Pinang, Pahang), having had issue, three sons and one daughter.

1475 Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Jamil Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Shah [al-Marhum Shaikh], Sultan of Pahang, eldest son of Paduka Sri Sultan Muhammad Shah I ibni al-Marhum Sultan Mansur Shah, Sultan of Pahang, by his wife, Mengindra Putri. 1560 - 1590 Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l-Kadir 'Ala' ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Zainal-Abidin Shah, Sultan of Pahang, son of Paduka Sri Sultan Zainal-Abidin Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Shah, Sultan of Pahang, by his second wife, Tun Kamala, daughter of the Bendahara Sri Buwana. Adopted by his half-brother Sultan Mansur Shah II, and succeeded on his death as joint ruler, 1560. He d. (or was k.) 1590, having had issue, three sons and two daughters.

1590 - 1592 H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah II ibni al-Marhum Sultan 'Abdu'l-Kadir 'Ala' ud-din Shah, Sultan of Pahang, only son of Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l-Kadir 'Ala' ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Zainal-Abidin Shah, Sultan of Pahang, by his Royal wife. Succeeded on the death of his father ca. 1590. Reigned under the Regency of his elder half-brother, until deposed by him in 1592. Taken as a hostage to Aceh in 1617. m. (first) ca. 1596, a daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Muhammad Hassan ibni al-Marhum Sultan Saif ul-Rijal Nur ul-Alam [al-Marhum di Tanjong Cheindana], Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Dar us-Salam. m. (second) Putri Munang [Putri Bongsu Chandra Devi] [Raja Dungu] (bur. Chandong Cemetery, Pekan, Pahang), daughter of Raja Asif ibni al-Marhum Sultan Khoja Ahmad, of Siak, by his wife, Putri Puteh, Raja Putri Kechil Besar, elder daughter of Paduka Sri Sultan Mansur Shah II ibni al-Marhum Sultan Zainal-Abidin Shah, Sultan of Pahang. 1592 - 1614 H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Ghafur Muhi ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan 'Abdu'l-Kadir 'Ala' ud-din Shah [al-Marhum Pahang], Sultan of Pahang. b. 1567, eldest son of Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l-Kadir 'Ala' ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Zainal-Abidin Shah, Sultan of Pahang, by a junior wufe. Appointed as regent for his younger half-brother after the death of his father, ca. 1590. Deposed his charge and assumed power with the style of Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Ghafur Muhi ud-din Shah, 1592. Fled to Jelai, in Patani, following a revolution led by his younger son in 1612. He returned to Pahang in the following year, only to be murdered along with his eldest son and heir. m. several wives, including (first) 1584, H.H. Raja Putri Zohra [Putri Lamturak], Paduka Sri Raja Bonda (bur. Royal Cemetery, Pekan), daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Saif ul-Rijal ibni al-Marhum Paduka Sri Begawan Sultan 'Abdu'l Kahar, Sultan of Brunei. m. (second) at Patani, 31st July 1612, H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Shah Alam binti al-Marhum Sultan Bahadur Shah [Phra Nang Chao Ying], Raja of Patani (d. at Patani, 1635), née Raja Ungku, youngest daughter of Paduka Sri Sultan Bahadur Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Mansur Shah, Raja of Patani. He was k. (poisoned) by his younger son, at Kuala Pahang, before 16th August 1614 (bur. Chandong Cemetery, Pekan, Pahang), having had issue, one son and one daughter by his Royal wives, and ten other children

1614 - 1615 H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Ala' ud-din Ri'ayat Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan 'Abdu'l Ghafur Muhi ud-din Shah, Sultan of Pahang*, younger son of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Ghafur Muhi ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan 'Abdu'l-Kadir 'Ala' ud-din Shah, Sultan of Pahang. Seized the throne after killing his father and elder brother, the Raja Muda, 1614. Entered into treaty relations with the Portuguese, 16th August 1614. Attacked and deposed by the Acehnese in 1615, but fled into the interior and continued to exercise some ruling powers. Faced several further onslaughts by the Acehnese in 1617, 1635 and 1638 and from Johor in 1638. He had issue, a son k. by the Acehnese 1635.

1615 - 1617 H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Jalil Shah III ibni al-Marhum Sultan 'Ala' ud-din Ri'ayat Shah III, Sultan of Johor, Pahang and Lingga. b. 1590, as Raja Bujang, son of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Ala' ud-din Ri'ayat Shah III Zillu'llahi fil-Alam ibni Paduka Sri Sultan Ali Jalla 'Abdu'l Jalil Shah, Sultan of Johor, educ. privately. Appointed as Sultan of Pahang by the Acehnese, August 1615. Expelled by them in 1617, but returned in early 1623. Succeeded on the death of his uncle as Sultan of Johor in 1623, thereafter uniting Pahang with the crown of Johor - see Malaysia (Malacca-Johor).

1617 - 1623 Some authorities indicate that after the Acehnese had sacked Pahang, the fifth son of Sultan Ala ud-din III Ri'ayat Shah Sayyid al-Mukammil ibni al-Marhum Firman Shah, Sultan of Aceh, ruled there as Sultan. However, no details about this individual have been found.

1623 - 1853 Pahang united with the crown of Johor - see Malaysia (Malacca-Johor).

Dr Annabel Gallop of the British Library, London, and to Jorge Santos Alves and António Vasconcelos de Saldanha, for their recent discovery of a treaty with seal attached, in the Portuguese National Archives in Lisbon. Until then, the name of this sovereign had been unknown to historians. The seal is now the earliest known extant seal from the Malay peninsular.
